As of 1st June, Hester's Garage in Fleet is one of four service garages of the F&H Group which serves domestic and commercial clients for MOT’s, car servicing, car repairs and auto-diagnostics testing.
The previous owners are retiring after many happy years of service and once we heard of their plans for retirement, we jumped at the chance to take over such a long established and well located garage. For us it is natural progression.
As of 20th May 2018, most vehicles manufactured or first registered over 40 years ago will be exempt from MOT testing unless they have been substantially changed.
Minor modifications will not be affected by the new MOT rules for classic cars and this has been confirmed by the Department of Transport.

This year, the MoT test is changing.
New defect categories will be introduced while diesel cars will be subject to stricter emissions rules. Here’s an explanation of the main changes:
Defects will be categorised differently
Under the new rules, defects found during the MoT will be categorised as either Dangerous, Major or Minor.
- Dangerous: a direct and immediate risk to road safety or has a serious impact on the environment. Do not drive the vehicle until it’s been repaired. Fail.
- Major: it may affect the vehicle’s safety, put other road users at risk or have an impact on the environment. Repair it immediately. Fail.
- Minor: no significant effect on the safety of the vehicle or impact on the environment. Repair as soon as possible. Pass.
Driving conditions can occasionally cause brakes to make odd noises with temperature and humidity having an impact along with how hard you break.
If the noise is brief and infrequent, then there’s probably nothing to worry about. But if it’s more persistent, then you should get it checked out. Here are a few reasons your brakes may be making a squealing sound.
