Regularly servicing your vehicle is the best way to keep it running smoothly. And it will help you avoid major problems that could be expensive and keep your car off the road for a while.

Maintaining your vehicle properly can save you money in the long term, prevent you from breaking down, and ensure your car lasts longer.

What service do I need for my car?

car servicing fleet hampshire

The type of service your car needs is dependent on factors such as the vehicle’s age and the mileage you do each year.

Every car is different, and your owner’s handbook will provide advice on the servicing your vehicle requires. Because of the difference in models and the different grades of oil needed, servicing prices will vary for each car.

How frequently you get your car serviced will very much depend on the quantity and type of driving you do. For instance, you may make mainly short trips in towns and cities. Or you could clock up hundreds of miles on long distance motorway journeys.

Interim service

Interim services are mainly advised for high-mileage drivers when a once yearly service is not enough. A bi-annual check is recommended for cars that cover long distances. And cars that make very frequent shorter journeys.

Shorter stop-start journeys can take a higher toll on tyres and brakes as they’re subjected to more wear and tear. An interim service gives you the reassurance of knowing your car has been checked over.

Alternatively, you may just want to book your car in for an engine oil and filter change to improve performance between services. Following your car manufacturer’s guidance, the engine oil is drained, the sump plug washer and oil filter replaced, and your oil refilled.

Full service

An annual full service offers a more comprehensive set of maintenance checks and is advised for most cars. Many of our customers book their car in for a service at the same time as booking it in for its annual MOT.

It’s generally recommended that your car is serviced every 12 months or goes no longer than 12,000 miles without a service. This will help your vehicle to stay safe and give better performance.

This service includes thorough brake and engine inspections as well as suspension, fluid level and filter checks. Regular annual servicing can help your car to retain its value.

Major service

A major service is the most extensive service, and this can include changing parts that need regular replacement, such as brake fluid. Your garage will give you an outline of the work that’s needed and likely costs before they begin.
